What is podiatry? Pictures.

The job title of podiatry is protected and requires a full-time apprenticeship. It is a health profession.

Podiatry covers the entire field of medical foot care. Podiatrists are subject to cantonal health legislation and its health regulations. As health professionals, podiatrists require a permit from the relevant cantonal health authority to practice their profession.

Podiatry develops along with medicine and is often carried out in cooperation with doctors. Podiatry plays an important role in maintaining public health.

Podiatrists do not only treat "hard cases" but also all people who want to have their feet professionally cared for or treated and who want to receive advice from a qualified specialist. Often "just" to prevent foot problems.

Our treatments always have the nice side effect that your feet simply appear well cared for all around.

Podiatry versus foot care/pedicure

Podiatrists are health professionals subject to health regulations and work with various instruments, particularly the scalpel technique. Podiatrists are allowed to carry out both decorative and medical work on your feet. Podiatrists complete a training period of 3-7 years, depending on their level of training.

Chiropodists/pedicurists are only allowed to carry out purely decorative work on your feet. What does that mean exactly? Chiropodists are not allowed to treat calluses, corns or ingrown nails, but are only allowed to work in the cosmetic area.
